I found that birth is so much more than a means to an end…it is a transformation. I find this work to be so utterly rewarding and awe-inspiring, I could not imagine myself ever doing anything else.

Jenn Barnes is a Doula with Doulas at Essentials in Omaha Nebraska. Certified as both a Birth and Postpartum Doula, Jenn has the training and expertise to help families before, during and after the birth of their baby. Additional certification as a Lactation Counselor gives her the extra knowledge to help moms and their babies be successful in their breastfeeding journey.

As a professional postpartum doula and mental health therapist based in Omaha, NE, my mission is to help families thrive during the transition to parenthood. I offer evidence-based talk therapy, body-based therapy, and in-home practical support to empower families to make the best decisions for their unique needs. By working with me, parents develop confidence in their parenting skills and decisions, cultivate skills to maintain self-care practices, and increase emotion regulation.

Hi, my name is Melody. I am a mother to two beautiful children, a boy and a girl. They are most definitely my heart on the outside. I also have lost 9 precious little ones and those babies are definitely missed and loved. I am a certified Birth Doula and have been working in the Birth field for a while. I cannot say it enough, “I LOVE IT!” As a Doula, I do not replace your medical team or your support people. I only add to your Birth experience. I can and will support any Birth, any outcome. I love working with Moms, Dads, and support people in the prenatal time frame to prepare you for labor, delivery, and beyond.

I’m Emily Garcia and I became a doula to support and empower moms during this transition into motherhood. I know firsthand the challenges of birth and the rollercoaster of postpartum. That helped lead me to my calling as a birth and postpartum doula and childbirth educator so that I can be a beacon of support for moms facing similar struggles.

Hi. I am Amy Kelly of Beautiful Beginnings. I am a certified Lamaze Childbirth Educator and Certified Birth Doula. I have been providing Childbirth Education and Doula services in the Omaha Metro area for over 20 years. I have worked with a variety of family dynamics and adapt to accommodate. My job is educate, support you, and help you feel empowered as you walk into this next chapter of your life. We don’t all travel the same way through each chapter, I am here to support YOU, however that looks. You can do this!.

Shanika King is a Certified Labor Doula And Breastfeeding consultant, with a genuine desire to improve the birthing experience and make a positive Birth for all parties involved. Shanika received her training from Dona International and Certification from ProDoula. Shanika has a bachelor’s degree in healthcare management and years of experience in Trauma Informed Care, Ob/Gyn care and Case management. She believes in meeting her clients where they are and supporting them through it all, so they can have it all.

Having become a mother after infertility and through adoption, Kayla knows what it is like to be the pregnant parent and the non-pregnant parent. Both of her daughters were NICU babies as well. This experience gives her understanding and depth to not only pregnancy and birth, but waiting and growing families in a multitude of ways.

My name is Carrie Powell and I am one of the Doulas at Essentials.  In 2017 I began my doula journey and have loved every step of serving women during their pregnancy and births!  It is my goal to help women get educated on their choices and have a birth they feel wonderful about.  So many choices and decisions go into birth, and watching families become empowered and strong through childbirth classes and prenatal visits is one of the greatest parts of this job.  I would be honored to help you navigate this exciting time!!!

No matter the situation I have always loved to meet new people. Every job I have held in my life has consisted of helping people. I knew my purpose in life was to help others. I never would have imagined it would be assisting other in bring a new life into this world. I obtained my degree in Behavioral Science in 2019. I worked hard to find a career that would allow me to impact others lives the way I can in my role as a Birth Advocate. Yes, a birth advocate! Having the chance to empower a pregnant person and their families so that they make wise and informed decisions is a must.

Sydney Shead | Kindred Additions Doula Services

Sydney began her professional career as a nanny and childcare provider and over the last 20 years has served children, youth and families in numerous capacities including Montessori educator, family support worker, and parent coach. She holds a Sociology B.A. and Labor Doula Certification from ProDoula. She is also a Certified Montessori Early Childhood and Montessori Parent-Infant Educator, and Certified Breastfeeding Educator who is currently studying to obtain Postpartum Doula Certification by fall 2022.

Abigail Shipp | Omaha Childbirth Education

Abigail (Abby) Shipp, with Belly Love Birth Doula & Omaha Childbirth Education, has been a doula for over 10 years and a childbirth educator for over 4 years in the Omaha area. 

She has worked with families with all different birth plans and goals, and is a judgment free safe space. She believes that all families deserve to have a doula, even those families who are not seeking an unmedicated birth. 

Abby also teaches a comprehensive one day childbirth education class to help prepare area families for birth. She goes over what birth is, pain relief options, unmedicated births, how to involve the partner and more! 

She has been blessed to work with over 100 families, and considers every birth to be an absolute blessing!

Sabrina Singleton | The Proverbs Doula

I will accompany you in labor to help create a safe and satisfying birth experience. I draw on my knowledge and experience to provide emotional support, physical comfort, and the information you need to make informed decisions as they arise in labor. I provide reassurance and perspective to you and your partner, make recommendations for labor progress, and use relaxation, massage, positioning, and other techniques for comfort.

Nikeya Traynham, MPH, CD-L | A Mother’s Love, Inc.

Nikeya is an Omaha native, Certified Labor Doula and Breastfeeding Counselor who obtained her training through DONA International and Certification with ProDoula in 2021. She has a Master’s in Public Health aiming to bring health and wellness to the forefront of Omaha and surrounding communities. Nikeya is a health professional with 20 years of experience in Prenatal/Maternal care and Co-Founder of A Mother’s Love Inc., a nonprofit organization that focuses on the love support and empowerment of young pregnant mothers.
